They Began Their Careers in the Yiddish Theater


Many actors who later had prominent careers on the stage and in Hollywood their careers in the Yiddish Theater.  The list includes Paul Muni, Walter Mathau, Herschel Bernardi, Molly Picon, Edward G. Robinson, Bertha Kalish, Maurice Schwartz, Rudolph Schildkraut, Menasche Skulnick, Morris Carnofsky, Jennie Goldstein, Irving Jacobson (original cast of Man of la Mancha), Joseph Bulock (original cast of Oklahoma!), Joel Grey and Jerome Robbins, not to mention vaudevillians such as Eddie Cantor, Sophie Tucker, Mickey Katz and Zero Mostel, as well as many others, many of them also well known.
